But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by people.Everyone who sees me mocks me; they sneer and shake their heads:“ He relies on the Lord; let Him rescue him; let the Lord deliver him, since He takes pleasure in him.”

Then two criminals were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left.Those who passed by were yelling insults at Him, shaking their headsand saying,“ The One who would demolish the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”In the same way the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked Him and said,“ He saved others, but He cannot save Himself! He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him.He has put His trust in God; let God rescue Him now— if He wants Him! For He said,‘ I am God’s Son.’”In the same way even the criminals who were crucified with Him kept taunting Him.From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over the whole land.

But against all the Israelites, whether man or beast, not even a dog will snarl, so that you may know that Yahweh makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.

You make us an object of reproach to our neighbors, a source of mockery and ridicule to those around us.You make us a joke among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples.

Now I am mocked by their songs; I have become an object of scorn to them.They despise me and keep their distance from me; they do not hesitate to spit in my face.Because God has loosened my bowstring and oppressed me, they have cast off restraint in my presence.

Why should the nations ask,“ Where is their God?” Before our eyes, let vengeance for the shed blood of Your servants be known among the nations.
