Thou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

chase them with your gale winds, and terrify them with your windstorm.

Pursue them in anger and eradicate them from under the LORD’s heaven.

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his warnings, and ridiculed his prophets. Finally the LORD got very angry at his people and there was no one who could prevent his judgment.He brought against them the king of the Babylonians, who slaughtered their young men in their temple. He did not spare young men or women, or even the old and aging. God handed everyone over to him.

Alas! The Lord has covered Daughter Zion with his anger. He has thrown down the splendor of Israel from heaven to earth; he did not protect his temple when he displayed his anger.ב( Bet)The Lord destroyed mercilessly all the homes of Jacob’s descendants. In his anger he tore down the fortified cities of Daughter Judah. He knocked to the ground and humiliated the kingdom and its rulers.ג( Gimel)

Yet you have battered us, leaving us a heap of ruins overrun by wild dogs; you have covered us with darkness.

Therefore I will act with fury! My eye will not pity them nor will I spare them. When they have shouted in my ears, I will not listen to them.”

But as for me, my eye will not pity them nor will I spare them; I hereby repay them for what they have done.”

My eye will not pity you; I will not spare you. For your behavior I will hold you accountable, and you will suffer the consequences of your abominable practices. Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who is striking you.
