Why should the living complain when punished for their sins?

A person who is still alive shouldn’t blame God when God punishes them for their sins.

Why should a living man complain, a man, about the punishment of his sins?

Then why should we, mere humans, complain when we are punished for our sins?

Why should any living person complain, any man, because of the punishment for his sins?

Of what can any living mortal, or any man, Complain in view of his sins?

I will bear the indignation of the Lord, Because I have sinned against Him, Until He pleads my case And executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to the light; I will see His righteousness.

The foolishness of a man twists his way, And his heart frets against the Lord.

And Cain said to the Lord,“ My punishment is greater than I can bear!Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.”

Then Elisha said to the king of Israel,“ What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and the prophets of your mother.” But the king of Israel said to him,“ No, for the Lord has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”

but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.So the Lord said to Cain,“ Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.And David became angry because of the LORD’s outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place Perez Uzzah to this day.

Why do you cry about your affliction? Your sorrow is incurable. Because of the multitude of your iniquities, Because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you.

For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.Then I said,‘ I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’

And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said,“ It is better for me to die than to live.”Then God said to Jonah,“ Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” And he said,“ It is right for me to be angry, even to death!”

Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.

Your sons have fainted, They lie at the head of all the streets, Like an antelope in a net; They are full of the fury of the Lord, The rebuke of your God.

So the children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying,“ Surely we die, we perish, we all perish!

That He would show you the secrets of wisdom! For they would double your prudence. Know therefore that God exacts from you Less than your iniquity deserves.

and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their guilt—

But Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. And the king sent a man ahead of him, but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders,“ Do you see how this son of a murderer has sent someone to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door. Is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?”

The land also shall be left empty by them, and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them; they will accept their guilt, because they despised My judgments and because their soul abhorred My statutes.

And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.

And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:“ My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees,

And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guilt, since You our God have punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and have given us such deliverance as this,

Then Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord until evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.And Joshua said,“ Alas, Lord GOD, why have You brought this people over the Jordan at all— to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? Oh, that we had been content, and dwelt on the other side of the Jordan!O Lord, what shall I say when Israel turns its back before its enemies?For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear it, and surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. Then what will You do for Your great name?”So the Lord said to Joshua:“ Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face?Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff.Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they have become doomed to destruction. Neither will I be with you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from among you.Get up, sanctify the people, and say,‘ sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, because thus says the Lord God of Israel:“ There is an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among you.”

Indeed it was for my own peace That I had great bitterness; But You have lovingly delivered my soul from the pit of corruption, For You have cast all my sins behind Your back.For Sheol cannot thank You, Death cannot praise You; Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth.The living, the living man, he shall praise You, As I do this day; The father shall make known Your truth to the children.

So Moses said to the Lord,“ Why have You afflicted Your servant? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You have laid the burden of all these people on me?

On the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, saying,“ You have killed the people of the Lord.”
