The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has given the walls of her palaces into the hands of the enemy; they have raised a shout in the house of the Lord as on the day of an appointed festival.

The Lord deserted his altar. He left his temple. He gave the walls of Jerusalem’s palaces into the hands of her enemies. They shouted loudly in the house of the Lord. You would have thought it was the day of an appointed feast.

The Lord has scorned his altar, disowned his sanctuary; he has delivered into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they raised a clamor in the house of the Lord as on the day of festival.

The Lord has rejected his own altar; he despises his own sanctuary. He has given Jerusalem’s palaces to her enemies. They shout in the Lord’s Temple as though it were a day of celebration.

Lift up Your feet to the perpetual desolations. The enemy has damaged everything in the sanctuary.Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place; They set up their banners for signs.They seem like men who lift up Axes among the thick trees.And now they break down its carved work, all at once, With axes and hammers.They have set fire to Your sanctuary; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name to the ground.They said in their hearts,“ Let us destroy them altogether.” They have burned up all the meeting places of God in the land.

When God heard this, He was furious, And greatly abhorred Israel,So that He forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent He had placed among men,And delivered His strength into captivity, And His glory into the enemy’s hand.

‘ speak to the house of Israel,“ Thus says the Lord God:‘ Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, your arrogant boast, the desire of your eyes, the delight of your soul; and your sons and daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.

‘ As for the beauty of his ornaments, He set it in majesty; But they made from it The images of their abominations— Their detestable things; Therefore I have made it Like refuse to them.I will give it as plunder Into the hands of strangers, And to the wicked of the earth as spoil; And they shall defile it.I will turn My face from them, And they will defile My secret place; For robbers shall enter it and defile it.

He burned the house of the Lord and the king’s house; all the houses of Jerusalem, that is, all the houses of the great, he burned with fire.

And the Chaldeans who fight against this city shall come and set fire to this city and burn it, with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke Me to anger;

“ Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ Zion shall be plowed like a field, Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, And the mountain of the temple Like the bare hills of the forest.”’

And the Chaldeans burned the king’s house and the houses of the people with fire, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

The Lord was like an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel, He has swallowed up all her palaces; He has destroyed her strongholds, And has increased mourning and lamentation In the daughter of Judah.

I will lay your cities waste and bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not smell the fragrance of your sweet aromas.

But I will send a fire upon Judah, And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.”

Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed like a field, Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, And the mountain of the temple Like the bare hills of the forest.

Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, nor shall I abhor them, to utterly destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God.

They also set up false witnesses who said,“ This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law;for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”

And Jesus said to them,“ Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”

Then they burned the house of God, broke down the wall of Jerusalem, burned all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all its precious possessions.

He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor.They shall fear You As long as the sun and moon endure, Throughout all generations.He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, Like showers that water the earth.In His days the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, Until the moon is no more.He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before Him, And His enemies will lick the dust.The kings of Tarshish and of the isles Will bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba Will offer gifts.Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; All nations shall serve Him.For He will deliver the needy when he cries, The poor also, and him who has no helper.He will spare the poor and needy, And will save the souls of the needy.He will redeem their life from oppression and violence; And precious shall be their blood in His sight.And He shall live; And the gold of Sheba will be given to Him; Prayer also will be made for Him continually, And daily He shall be praised.There will be an abundance of grain in the earth, On the top of the mountains; Its fruit shall wave like Lebanon; And those of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.His name shall endure forever; His name shall continue as long as the sun. And men shall be blessed in Him; All nations shall call Him blessed.Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things!And blessed be His glorious name forever! And let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and Amen.The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

Your holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.Our holy and beautiful temple, Where our fathers praised You, Is burned up with fire; And all our pleasant things are laid waste.

“ But go now to My place which was in Shiloh, where I set My name at the first, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.And now, because you have done all these works,” says the Lord,“ and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear, and I called you, but you did not answer,therefore I will do to the house which is called by My name, in which you trust, and to this place which I gave to you and your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.”’”

How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion With a cloud in His anger! He cast down from heaven to the earth The beauty of Israel, And did not remember His footstool In the day of His anger.

Therefore I will bring the worst of the Gentiles, And they will possess their houses; I will cause the pomp of the strong to cease, And their holy places shall be defiled.

‘ Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’“ For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah, which have been pulled down to fortify against the siege mounds and the sword:‘ They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but only to fill their places with the dead bodies of men whom I will slay in My anger and My fury, all for whose wickedness I have hidden My face from this city.
