為了這些事我不住哭泣，我的眼不住流下淚水；因為那安慰我、使我重新振作的，都遠離了我。我的兒女孤單淒涼，因為仇敵得勝了。

他的弓箭手四面包圍我，他剖開我的腰子，全不顧惜，把我的膽傾倒在地上。

耶和華啊！你看，患難臨到我！我的心腸激動，我的心在我裡面翻轉，因為我曾經非常悖逆。街上有刀劍使人喪子，屋裡也有死亡。

因此我說：“要轉開你們的眼，不要望著我，讓我痛哭吧！不要因我人民的毀滅，而急急安慰我。”

我好像水被傾倒出去，我全身的骨頭都散脫了，我的心在我裡面像蠟融化。

我的肺腑，我的肺腑啊！我絞痛欲絕。我的心哪！我的心在我裡面顫抖，我不能緘默不語。我的靈啊！我聽見了號角的聲音，也聽見了戰爭的吶喊。

我因愁煩眼目昏花，因眾多的仇敵視力衰退。

我的眼淚像江河流下，都因我的人民的滅亡。我的眼淚湧流不停，總不止息，直到耶和華垂顧，從天上關注。因眼見我城中眾民的遭遇，我的心很痛苦。

那些死於刀下的比餓死的還好；餓死的因缺乏田間的出產，就日漸消瘦而死亡。慈心的婦人親手烹煮自己所生的孩子；在我眾民（“我眾民”原文作“我子民的女子”）遭毀滅的時候，孩子竟成了母親的食物。

夜裡每到交更的時分，你要起來呼喊；在主面前你要傾心如水！你的孩童在各街頭上因飢餓而昏倒，你要為他們的性命向主舉手禱告。“耶和華啊，求你觀看！求你鑒察！你曾這樣對待過誰呢？難道婦人應該吃掉自己所生的，就是自己所撫養的嬰孩嗎？難道祭司和先知應該在主的聖所裡被殺害嗎？”

現在，耶和華萬軍的神以色列的神這樣說：‘你們為甚麼自己招來這樣的大災禍，使你們的男人、女人、孩童和嬰兒都從猶大中除滅，一個餘剩的人也不留下呢？

就放聲大哭，直哭到沒有力氣再哭。

我像燕子呻吟，像白鶴鳴叫，又像鴿子哀鳴。我的眼睛因仰望高處而疲倦；耶和華啊！我受欺壓，求你作我的保障。

野狗尚且用乳房哺養牠們的幼兒；但我的眾民變得多麼殘忍，像曠野的鴕鳥一樣。嬰兒的舌頭因乾渴而緊貼上膛；孩童求餅，卻沒有人分給他們。

聽啊！我同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）的呼救聲，從遙遠之地傳來：“耶和華不在錫安嗎？錫安的王不在其中嗎？”“他們為甚麼以自己雕刻的偶像，和列國虛無的偶像，來惹我發怒呢？”“收割期已過，夏天也結束；但我們仍未獲救。”因著我的同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）被壓碎，我的心破碎了；我悲傷痛哭，驚慌抓住了我。難道基列沒有乳香嗎？難道那裡沒有醫生嗎？我的同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）為甚麼總不痊愈呢？但願我的頭是水井，我的眼是淚的泉源；我好為我同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）中被殺的，晝夜哭泣。（本節在《馬索拉文本》為8:23）

耶和華啊！求你恩待我，因為我在患難之中；我的眼睛因愁煩昏花，我的身、我的心也都衰殘。

日子將到，人必說：‘不生育的和沒有懷過胎的，也沒有哺養過嬰兒的有福了。’

我因不住呼求而疲倦，我的喉嚨發乾；我因等候我的神，眼睛昏花。

“你要對他們說這話：‘願我的眼淚直流，日夜不停；因為我的同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的處女”）遭受極大的毀滅，受到很嚴重的打擊。
