「我為此哭泣，淚流滿面，卻無人安慰、鼓勵我。我的兒女淒涼孤苦，因為仇敵已經得勝。」

祂的弓箭手四面圍住我，祂毫不留情地刺透我的腎臟，使我肝膽塗地。

「耶和華啊，看看我是多麼痛苦！我的內臟攪動，我的心靈翻騰，因為我背叛了你。街上有屠殺，家中有死亡。

我的眼睛因憂愁而模糊，因敵人的攻擊而昏花。

因同胞被毀滅，我淚流成河。我的眼淚湧流不息，直到耶和華從天上垂顧。目睹城中婦女的遭遇，我痛苦不已。

死於刀下的勝過死於饑餓的，後者因田間缺糧而活活餓死。我的百姓遭毀滅時，慈母親手煮自己的兒女充饑。

你要在夜間起來，在主面前整夜呼求，向祂傾心吐意；你要為餓昏街頭的孩童向主舉手禱告。「耶和華啊，求你看看，你曾這樣對付過誰呢？母親豈能吃自己的孩子？祭司和先知豈能在主的聖所中被殺？

以色列的上帝——萬軍之上帝耶和華說，『你們為什麼自招大禍，使你們當中的男人、女人、孩童和嬰兒都從猶大滅亡，無一倖免呢？

便放聲大哭，直哭得精疲力盡。

「我像燕、鶴一樣哀鳴，像鴿子一樣呻吟；我舉目望天，雙眼疲倦。耶和華啊！我困苦不堪，求你保護我。

豺狼尚且哺養自己的幼兒，我的子民卻像荒野的鴕鳥一樣殘忍無情。嬰兒乾渴難忍，舌頭緊貼上膛；孩童乞求食物，卻無人給予。

聽啊！遠處傳來我同胞的哀鳴：「難道耶和華不在錫安了嗎？難道她的王不在她那裡了嗎？」耶和華說：「他們為什麼供奉雕刻的神像和外族無用的偶像，惹我發怒？」他們說：「麥收已完，夏季已過，但我們還未得救。」同胞的創傷令我傷心欲絕，痛苦萬分，驚慌失措。難道基列沒有藥物、沒有醫生嗎？為什麼我同胞的創傷至今未癒？真希望我的頭是水泉，眼是淚泉，好為我被殺的同胞晝夜哭泣；

耶和華啊，我落在苦難之中，求你憐憫我，我雙眼哭腫，身心疲憊。

因為日子快到了，人們將說，『不曾生育、不曾懷孕、不曾哺乳的女子有福了！』

我連連呼救，已聲嘶力竭；我期盼上帝的幫助，望眼欲穿。
