“ The Lord is righteous, yet I rebelled against his command. Listen, all you peoples; look on my suffering. My young men and young women have gone into exile.

Jerusalem says,“ The Lord always does what is right. But I refused to obey his commands. Listen, all you nations. Pay attention to how much I’m suffering. My young men and women have been taken away as prisoners.

“ The Lord is in the right, for I have rebelled against his word; but hear, all you peoples, and see my suffering; my young women and my young men have gone into captivity.

“ The Lord is right,” Jerusalem says,“ for I rebelled against him. Listen, people everywhere; look upon my anguish and despair, for my sons and daughters have been taken captive to distant lands.

If you will fear the Lord and serve Him, and listen to His voice and not rebel against the command of the Lord, then both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the Lord your God.But if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the command of the Lord, then the hand of the Lord will be against you, even as it was against your fathers.

Righteous are You, Lord, when I plead my case with You; Nevertheless I would discuss matters of justice with You: Why has the way of the wicked prospered? Why are all those who deal in treachery at ease?

I know, Lord, that Your judgments are righteous, And that You have afflicted me in faithfulness.

However, You are righteous in everything that has happened to us; For You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly.

We have done wrong and rebelled; You have not pardoned.

“ Righteousness belongs to You, Lord, but to us open shame, as it is this day— to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those who are nearby and those who are far away in all the countries to which You have driven them, because of their unfaithful deeds which they have committed against You.

For this is what the Lord says:“ Behold, those who were not sentenced to drink the cup will certainly drink it, so are you the one who will be held completely blameless? You will not be held blameless, but you will certainly drink it.

Yet, behold, survivors will be left in it who will be brought out, both sons and daughters. Behold, they are going to come out to you, and you will see their conduct and actions; then you will be comforted for the disaster which I have brought against Jerusalem for everything which I have brought upon it.Then they will comfort you when you see their conduct and actions, for you will know that I have not done without reason whatever I did to it,” declares the Lord God.

“ Now the future generation, your sons who rise up after you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land, when they see the plagues of that land and the diseases with which the Lord has afflicted it, will say,‘ All its land is brimstone and salt, burned debris, unsown and unproductive, and no grass grows on it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and in His wrath.’All the nations will say,‘ Why has the Lord done all this to this land? Why this great outburst of anger?’Then people will say,‘ It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.And they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they have not known and whom He had not assigned to them.Therefore, the anger of the Lord burned against that land, to bring upon it every curse which is written in this book;and the Lord uprooted them from their land in anger, fury, and in great wrath, and hurled them into another land, as it is this day.’

To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, because we have rebelled against Him;and we have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in His teachings which He set before us through His servants the prophets.Indeed, all Israel has violated Your Law and turned aside, not obeying Your voice; so the curse has gushed forth on us, along with the oath which is written in the Law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him.So He has confirmed His words which He had spoken against us and against our rulers who ruled us, to bring on us great disaster; for under the entire heaven there has not been done anything like what was done in Jerusalem.Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us; yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord our God by turning from our wrongdoing and giving attention to Your truth.So the Lord has kept the disaster in store and brought it on us; for the Lord our God is righteous with respect to all His deeds which He has done, but we have not obeyed His voice.“ And now, Lord, our God, You who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made a name for Yourself, as it is this day— we have sinned, we have been wicked.Lord, in accordance with all Your righteous acts, let now Your anger and Your wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; for because of our sins and the wrongdoings of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become an object of taunting to all those around us.

And Adoni bezek said,“ Seventy kings with their thumbs and their big toes cut off used to gather up scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.” So they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open, to hear the prayer of Your servant which I am praying before You now, day and night, on behalf of the sons of Israel Your servants, confessing the sins of the sons of Israel which we have committed against You; I and my father’s house have sinned.We have acted very corruptly against You and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses.Remember, please, the word which You commanded Your servant Moses, saying,‘ If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples;

and he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Because you have disobeyed the command of the Lord, and have not kept the commandment which the Lord your God commanded you,

Her adversaries have become her masters, Her enemies are secure; For the Lord has caused her grief Because of the multitude of her wrongdoings; Her little ones have gone away As captives led by the enemy.All of her splendor Is gone from the daughter of Zion; Her leaders have become like deer That have found no pasture, And they have fled without strength From the pursuer.

And this house will become a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by it will be appalled and hiss and say,‘ Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and this house?’And they will say,‘ Because they abandoned the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and they adopted other gods and worshiped and served them, for that reason the Lord has brought all this adversity on them.’ ”

For rebellion is as reprehensible as the sin of divination, And insubordination is as reprehensible as false religion and idolatry. Since you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you from being king.”

The Lord is righteous in all His ways, And kind in all His works.

Because they had rebelled against the words of God And rejected the plan of the Most High.

And I heard the angel of the waters saying,“ Righteous are You, the One who is and who was, O Holy One, because You judged these things;for they poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. They deserve it.”And I heard the altar saying,“ Yes, Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.”

“ Many nations will pass by this city; and they will say to one another,‘ Why has the Lord done this to this great city?’Then they will answer,‘ Because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord their God and bowed down to other gods and served them.’ ”

But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;

“ But they became rebellious and revolted against You, And threw Your Law behind their backs And killed Your prophets who had admonished them In order to bring them back to You, And they committed great blasphemies.

Then Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron, and said to them,“ I have sinned this time; the Lord is the righteous one, and I and my people are the wicked ones.

The Lord is righteous within her; He will do no injustice. Every morning He brings His justice to light; He does not fail. But the criminal knows no shame.

Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people, while your eyes look on and long for them constantly; but there will be nothing you can do.A people whom you do not know will eat the produce of your ground and every product of your labor, and you will never be anything but oppressed and mistreated continually.You will also be driven insane by the sight of what you see.The Lord will strike you on the knees and thighs with severe boils from which you cannot be healed, and strike you from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.The Lord will bring you and your king, whom you appoint over you, to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods, made of wood and stone.And you will become an object of horror, a song of mockery, and an object of taunting among all the peoples where the Lord drives you.“ You will bring out a great amount of seed to the field, but you will gather in little, because the locust will devour it.You will plant and cultivate vineyards, but you will neither drink of the wine nor bring in the harvest, because the worm will eat it.You will have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, because your olives will drop off prematurely.You will father sons and daughters but they will not remain yours, because they will go into captivity.
