For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail,[ and] the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion,[ that] bewaileth herself,[ that] spreadeth her hands,[ saying], Woe[ is] me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.

Her filthiness[ is] in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified[ himself].

And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth[ day] of the month,[ that] Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built forts against it round about.

For these[ things] I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.

And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servants the prophets.Surely at the commandment of the LORD came[ this] upon Judah, to remove[ them] out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did;And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon.

Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman.

She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears[ are] on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort[ her]: all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.

The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch[ their] tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

They cried unto them, Depart ye;[ it is] unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn[ there].

And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:

They have heard that I sigh:[ there is] none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done[ it]: thou wilt bring the day[ that] thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.

And if a woman have an issue,[ and] her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean.And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe[ himself] in water, and be unclean until the even.And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe[ himself] in water, and be unclean until the even.And if it[ be] on[ her] bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even.And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she[ shall be] unclean.Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation.And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe[ himself] in water, and be unclean until the even.

Behold, I will command, saith the LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.

The LORD hath done[ that] which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and he hath caused[ thine] enemy to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine adversaries.Their heart cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: give thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease.Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street.Behold, O LORD, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit,[ and] children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain[ them] in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed,[ and] not pitied.Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD’S anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.

Make a chain: for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be defiled.

I called for my lovers,[ but] they deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.

What prayer and supplication soever be[ made] by any man,[ or] by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:

How hath the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger,[ and] cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger!The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Judah; he hath brought[ them] down to the ground: he hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof.He hath cut off in[ his] fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire,[ which] devoureth round about.He hath bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his right hand as an adversary, and slew all[ that were] pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion: he poured out his fury like fire.The Lord was as an enemy: he hath swallowed up Israel, he hath swallowed up all her palaces: he hath destroyed his strong holds, and hath increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, as[ if it were of] a garden: he hath destroyed his places of the assembly: the LORD hath caused the solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion, and hath despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest.The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary, he hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have made a noise in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a solemn feast.The LORD hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion: he hath stretched out a line, he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying: therefore he made the rampart and the wall to lament; they languished together.

Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein[ is] no pleasure.

Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall[ men] lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them:

Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that[ are] in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and[ against] the Chaldeans, which besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city.And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath.

For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
