Jerusalem’s enemies took away all her treasures. Her people saw outsiders enter her temple. The Lord had commanded them not to do that.

Your adversaries have roared in the midst of Your meeting place; They have set up their own signs as signs.It seems like one bringing up His axe into a forest of trees.And now they break down all its carved work With axe and hammers.They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name.They said in their heart,“ Let’s completely subdue them.” They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.

when you brought in foreigners, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in My sanctuary to profane it, My house, when you offered My food, the fat, and the blood and they broke My covenant— this in addition to all your abominations.

“ Now when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be— let the reader understand— then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.

And he burned the house of the Lord, the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem; even every large house he burned with fire.

God, the nations have invaded Your inheritance; They have defiled Your holy temple; They have laid Jerusalem in ruins.They have given the dead bodies of Your servants to the birds of the sky as food, The flesh of Your godly ones to the animals of the earth.They have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem; And there was no one to bury them.We have become a disgrace before our neighbors, An object of derision and ridicule to those around us.How long, Lord? Will You be angry forever? Will Your jealousy burn like fire?Pour out Your wrath upon the nations which do not know You, And upon the kingdoms which do not call upon Your name.For they have devoured Jacob And laid waste his settlement.

Therefore My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge; And their nobles are famished, And their multitude is parched with thirst.Therefore Sheol has enlarged its throat and opened its mouth beyond measure; And Jerusalem’s splendor, her multitude, her noise of revelry, and the jubilant within her, descend into it.

Your holy people possessed Your sanctuary for a little while, Our adversaries have trampled it down.

I will also give all the wealth of this city, all its produce and all its valuable things— even all the treasures of the kings of Judah I will hand over to their enemies, and they will plunder them, take them away, and bring them to Babylon.

I will also turn My face away from them, and they will profane My treasure; then robbers will enter and profane it.

I will give your wealth and your treasures As plunder without cost, For all your sins And within all your borders.
