They replied,“ We are your servants.”“ But who are you?” Joshua demanded.“ Where do you come from?”

曰、我儕願為爾僕。約書亞曰、爾曹何人、奚自。

彼謂約書亞曰、我儕願為爾僕、約書亞曰、爾曹為誰、從何而來、

“ We are your servants,” they said to Joshua. But Joshua asked,“ Who are you and where do you come from?”

“ We’ll serve you,” they said to Joshua. But Joshua asked,“ Who are you? Where do you come from?”

They said to Joshua,“ We are your servants.” And Joshua said to them,“ Who are you? And where do you come from?”

They said to Joshua,“ We are your servants.” Then Joshua asked them,“ Who are you and where do you come from?”

So they said to Joshua,“ We are your servants.” Then Joshua said to them,“ Who are you and where do you come from?”

But they said to Joshua,“ We are your servants.” And Joshua said to them,“ Who are you, and where do you come from?”

And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye?

They said to Joshua,“ We are your servants.” Then Joshua asked them,“ Who are you and where do you come from?”

And they said unto Joshua, We[ are] thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who[ are] ye? and from whence come ye?

But they said to Joshua,“ We are willing to be your subjects.” So Joshua said to them,“ Who are you and where do you come from?”

They said to Joshua,“ We are your servants.” Joshua said to them,“ Who are you? Where do you come from?”

So the palace and city administrators, together with the elders and the guardians of the king’s sons, sent this message to Jehu:“ We are your servants and will do anything you tell us. We will not make anyone king; do whatever you think is best.”

If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor.

So our elders and all our people instructed us,‘ Take supplies for a long journey. Go meet with the people of Israel and tell them,“ We are your servants; please make a treaty with us.”’

May you be cursed! From now on you will always be servants who cut wood and carry water for the house of my God.”

Now we are at your mercy— do to us whatever you think is right.”

There were still some people living in the land who were not Israelites, including Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.These were descendants of the nations whom the people of Israel had not completely destroyed. So Solomon conscripted them as slaves, and they serve as forced laborers to this day.

Then he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham:“ May Canaan be cursed! May he be the lowest of servants to his relatives.”Then Noah said,“ May the Lord, the God of Shem, be blessed, and may Canaan be his servant!

But that day he made the Gibeonites the woodcutters and water carriers for the community of Israel and for the altar of the Lord— wherever the Lord would choose to build it. And that is what they do to this day.
