接着耶稣对他们说：“你们要注意，要提防一切贪心，因为一个人的生命不在于他财产的丰厚。”

求你使我转眼不看虚妄的事，使我在你的道路上存活。

祸哉！那些向耶和华深深隐瞒计划的人！他们所做的都在黑暗之中，他们说：“谁会看见我们呢？谁会知道我们呢？”

一旦欲望怀了胎，就生下罪来；罪长成了，就生出死亡。

他们离开了正道就被迷惑，随从了比珥的儿子巴兰的路——这巴兰喜爱不义的酬报，

至于淫乱和一切污秽，或是贪心，在你们中间连提都不可提，这样才与圣徒相宜。

那么，我们要怎么说呢？难道律法是罪吗？绝对不是！然而，要不是藉着律法，我就不知道什么是罪。如果律法没有说“不可贪心”，我就不知道什么是贪心；但是，罪藉着诫命，趁机在我里面生出种种贪念。原来在律法之外，罪是死的。

你们曾说：“我们与死亡立了约，与阴间定了协议；冲击而来的鞭子经过时，不会临到我们；我们以谎言为避难所，用虚假隐藏自己。”

你们行事为人不要爱钱财，要以现有的为满足，因为神自己说过：“我绝不撇下你，也绝不离弃你。”

被掩盖的事没有将不被显露出来的，隐秘的事也没有将不被知道的。

他的王国起始于示拿地的巴别、以力、亚甲、甲尼。

当谨守你的心，胜过保守一切，因为生命的泉源由心而出。

但是我告诉你们：所有怀着欲念看女人的，就已经在心里和她通奸了。如果你的右眼使你绊倒，就把它剜出来丢掉！因为对你来说，失去你身体的一部分，总比你全身被丢进地狱要好。

虽然酒发红、在杯中闪烁、下咽舒畅，但你不要去看它。

女人见那棵树的果实作为食物很好，又悦人眼目，并且因使人有智慧而令人喜爱，就摘下果实吃了，还给了与她在一起的丈夫，她丈夫也吃了。

实际上你们应当清楚知道这一点：所有淫乱的、污秽的，或贪心的——就是拜偶像的——在基督和神的国度里都得不到继业。

所以，当把你们属世的各个部分看为死了的，就如淫乱、污秽、邪情、恶欲和贪心，贪心就是拜偶像。

贪婪的人，急切要发财，但他不明白穷乏将临到他。

神的儿子们看到人的女儿们美丽，就从中任意挑选，为自己娶来为妻。

至于那些想发财的人就会陷入试探、网罗以及很多无知有害的欲望里；这些欲望使人沉溺在败坏和灭亡中。要知道，贪爱金钱是万恶之根；有些人恋慕金钱，就被迷惑而离开了信仰，用很多苦痛把自己刺透了。
