Was not the sin of Peor enough for us? Up to this very day we have not cleansed ourselves from that sin, even though a plague fell on the community of the Lord!

Don’t you remember how we sinned at Peor? The Lord struck us with a plague because of what we did. Up to this day we’re still suffering because of that sin.

Have we not had enough of the sin at Peor from which even yet we have not cleansed ourselves, and for which there came a plague upon the congregation of the Lord,

Was our sin at Peor not enough? To this day we are not fully cleansed of it, even after the plague that struck the entire community of the Lord.

Wasn’t the iniquity of Peor, which brought a plague on the LORD’s community, enough for us? We have not cleansed ourselves from it even to this day,

The sin we committed at Peor was bad enough. To this very day we have not purified ourselves; it even brought a plague on the community of the LORD.

永恆主在巴力毘珥所行的、你們親眼看見了；凡隨從毘珥的巴力的、永恆主你們的上帝都從你們中間消滅掉了。惟有你們這緊依附着永恆主你們的上帝的人、今日全都活着。

以色列人住在什亭；他們的人民和摩押的女子行起淫亂來。那些女子請以色列人民去赴獻與她們的神的祭筵，以色列人民竟喫她們的祭筵，跪拜她們的神。這樣、以色列人委身於毘珥的巴力，永恆主就向以色列人發怒。對摩西說：『你把人民所有的首領拘拿、當着永恆主面前、就在日光之下正法示眾，讓永恆主的烈怒得以轉消、不向以色列人發作。』於是摩西對以色列的官長們說：『你們各人要把自己的人、就是那些委身於毘珥的巴力的殺掉。』摩西和以色列人全會眾正在會棚出入處哭的時候，以色列人中忽然來了一個人，就在他們眼前、帶着一個米甸女人、來到他的族弟兄那裏。祭司亞倫的孫子以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，就從會眾中起來，手裏拿着槍，跟着那以色列人進圓拱帳幕，把他們兩個人刺死，就是刺死那以色列人和那女人，槍由肚子裏透過去。這樣、疫症就從以色列人中制住了。那時因疫症而死的、有二萬四千人。永恆主告訴摩西說：『祭司亞倫的孫子以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈使我向以色列人所發的烈怒轉消，因他在他們中間以妒愛熱情愛我，使我因妒愛熱情不把以色列人滅盡。故此你要說：「看哪，我將我和平之約給他，要做他和他以後的苗裔永遠擔當祭司職任的約，因為他對他的上帝有妒愛熱情，並且為以色列人除罪。」』那被擊殺的以色列人、就是那和米甸女人一同被擊殺的、名叫心利，是撒路的兒子，是西緬人之中一個父系家屬的首領。那個被擊殺的米甸女人名叫哥斯比，是蘇珥的女兒；這蘇珥是米甸那裏一個父系家屬的族長。永恆主告訴摩西說：『你要擾害米甸人，擊殺他們；因為他們用詭計擾害你們，在毘珥的事情上、和他們的姊妹、米甸首領的女兒哥斯比的事情上、用詭計騙了你們：這哥斯比是當疫症流行的日子、因毘珥的事而被擊殺的。』

他們又委身於毘珥的巴力，喫了祭死神之物；以他們的惡行為惹了永恆主發怒，便有疫症暴發於他們中間。

他們所遭遇的這些事都有象徵性；記載下來是要警戒我們、我們這些萬世之終局所達到的人。

我們也不要淫亂，像他們有人淫亂，一天就倒斃了二萬三千人！

因我們的壞行為和大罪過，我們才遭遇了這一切的事，並且我們的上帝你懲罰我們、也輕於我們的罪愆所應得的，又給我們留下這樣的逃脫人；我們哪可再違犯你的命令，跟這些行可憎惡之事的族民彼此結親呢？若這樣行，你豈不向我們發怒，直到我們滅盡，以致沒有一個餘剩之民或逃脫的人麼？
