So the Israelites sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead— to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

The Israelites sent Phinehas the priest to the land of Gilead. Phinehas was the son of Eleazar. They sent him to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh.

Then the people of Israel sent to the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

First, however, they sent a delegation led by Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to talk with the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

祭司亞倫的孫子以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，就從會眾中起來，手裏拿着槍，

亞倫的兒子以利亞撒娶了普鐵的一個女兒為妻；她給他生了非尼哈。這些是利未人父系家屬的首領，按家族排列的。

那時非尼哈站起來干涉，疫症這才被制住。那就算為他的義行，世世代代到永遠。

『倘若你弟兄犯了罪，你要去，當你和他獨在的時候使他自知有罪；他若聽你，你便贏得了你弟兄。

『祭司亞倫的孫子以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈使我向以色列人所發的烈怒轉消，因他在他們中間以妒愛熱情愛我，使我因妒愛熱情不把以色列人滅盡。故此你要說：「看哪，我將我和平之約給他，要做他和他以後的苗裔永遠擔當祭司職任的約，因為他對他的上帝有妒愛熱情，並且為以色列人除罪。」』

以色列眾族派打發人到便雅憫族派中去問說：『你們中間所行的這壞事是怎麼回事呢？

計畫要憑籌謀而立定；作戰要憑着智謀。

有爭論，只好跟你鄰舍一人爭論就夠了；不可洩露別人的祕密；恐怕聽見的人辱罵你，你的惡名就永脫不掉。一句話說得合乎機宜、就如金蘋果鑲嵌在銀的雕刻物上。智慧人的勸責在聽從的人耳中、如金耳環或黃金的妝飾品。忠信的奉差人對於差遣的人，就如收割時有冰雪的涼氣，使主人的精神爽快。

那麼你就要查究、搜索、仔細地究問。若這事實真地成立了，真有這可厭惡的事行於你中間，
