When they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan.

The tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh came to Geliloth. It was near the Jordan River in the land of Canaan. They built a large altar there by the Jordan.

And when they came to the region of the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, an altar of imposing size.

But while they were still in Canaan, and when they came to a place called Geliloth near the Jordan River, the men of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh stopped to build a large and imposing altar.

因为耶和华把约旦河定为我们和你们这流便人、迦得人的交界，你们与耶和华无份了。’这样，你们的子孙就使我们的子孙不再敬畏耶和华了。因此我们说：‘不如为自己筑一座坛，不是为献燔祭，也不是为献别的祭，乃是为你我中间和你我后人中间作证据，好叫我们也在耶和华面前献燔祭、平安祭，和别的祭侍奉他，免得你们的子孙日后对我们的子孙说，你们与耶和华无份了。’所以我们说：‘日后你们对我们，或对我们的后人这样说，我们就可以回答说，你们看我们列祖所筑的坛是耶和华坛的样式；这并不是为献燔祭，也不是为献别的祭，乃是为作你我中间的证据。’

又对众弟兄说：“你们堆聚石头。”他们就拿石头来堆成一堆，大家便在旁边吃喝。拉班称那石堆为伊迦尔撒哈杜他，雅各却称那石堆为迦累得。拉班说：“今日这石堆作你我中间的证据。”因此这地方名叫迦累得，又叫米斯巴，意思说：“我们彼此离别以后，愿耶和华在你我中间鉴察。你若苦待我的女儿，又在我的女儿以外另娶妻，虽没有人知道，却有神在你我中间作见证。”拉班又说：“你看我在你我中间所立的这石堆和柱子。这石堆作证据，这柱子也作证据。我必不过这石堆去害你；你也不可过这石堆和柱子来害我。

对他们说：“你们下约旦河中，过到耶和华你们神的约柜前头，按着以色列人十二支派的数目，每人取一块石头扛在肩上。这些石头在你们中间可以作为证据。日后，你们的子孙问你们说：‘这些石头是什么意思？’你们就对他们说：‘这是因为约旦河的水在耶和华的约柜前断绝；约柜过约旦河的时候，约旦河的水就断绝了。这些石头要作以色列人永远的纪念。’”以色列人就照约书亚所吩咐的，按着以色列人支派的数目，从约旦河中取了十二块石头，都遵耶和华所吩咐约书亚的行了。他们把石头带过去，到他们所住宿的地方，就放在那里。约书亚另把十二块石头立在约旦河中，在抬约柜的祭司脚站立的地方；直到今日，那石头还在那里。
