The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands.

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; (niv)

The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little. You will not be allowed to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you.But the Lord your God will deliver them over to you, throwing them into great confusion until they are destroyed.He will give their kings into your hand, and you will wipe out their names from under heaven. “ I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give into your hands the people who live in the land, and you will drive them out before you. (niv)
