瑪拿西沒有趕出伯‧善和所屬鄉鎮的居民，他納和所屬鄉鎮的居民，多珥和所屬鄉鎮的居民，以伯蓮和所屬鄉鎮的居民，米吉多和所屬鄉鎮的居民；迦南人仍堅持住在這地。以色列強盛的時候，就叫迦南人做苦工，沒有把他們全然趕走。

我不在一年之內把他們從你面前趕出去，恐怕地會荒廢，野地的走獸增多危害你。我要逐漸把他們從你面前趕出去，直到你的人數增多，承受那地為業。我要定你的疆界，從紅海直到非利士海，從曠野直到大河。我要把那地的居民交在你手中，你要把他們從你面前趕出去。不可跟他們和他們的神明立約。他們不可住在你的地上，免得他們使你得罪我。你若事奉他們的神明，必成為你的圈套。」

至於住耶路撒冷的耶布斯人，猶大人不能把他們趕出去。於是，耶布斯人與猶大人同住在耶路撒冷，直到今日。

要從你們面前趕出那地所有的居民，摧毀他們一切的石像和鑄成的偶像，也要拆毀他們一切的丘壇。你們要佔領那地，住在那裏，因我已把那地賜給你們為業。你們要按照宗族抽籤，承受土地：人多的要多給他們產業；人少的要少給他們產業。抽到何地給何人，那地就屬於他。你們要按照父系的支派承受產業。倘若你們不把那地的居民從你們面前趕出去，那留下的居民就必成為你們眼中的刺，肋下的荊棘，也必在你們所住的地上擾亂你們；我想要怎樣待他們，也必照樣待你們。」

他們卻沒有趕出住在基色的迦南人。迦南人就住在以法蓮人中，成為服勞役的僕人，直到今日。

所以，不要讓罪在你們必死的身上掌權，使你們順從身體的私慾。也不要把你們的肢體獻給罪作不義的工具，倒要像從死人中活着的人，把自己獻給神，並把你們的肢體獻給神作義的工具。罪必不能作你們的主，因你們不在律法之下，而是在恩典之下。
