瑪拿西沒有趕出伯‧善和屬伯‧善鄉村的居民，他納和屬他納鄉村的居民，多珥和屬多珥鄉村的居民，以伯蓮和屬以伯蓮鄉村的居民，米吉多和屬米吉多鄉村的居民；迦南人卻執意住在那些地方。及至以色列強盛了，就使迦南人做苦工，沒有把他們全然趕出。

我不在一年之內將他們從你面前攆出去，恐怕地成為荒涼，野地的獸多起來害你。我要漸漸地將他們從你面前攆出去，等到你的人數加多，承受那地為業。我要定你的境界，從紅海直到非利士海，又從曠野直到大河。我要將那地的居民交在你手中，你要將他們從你面前攆出去。不可和他們並他們的神立約。他們不可住在你的地上，恐怕他們使你得罪我。你若事奉他們的神，這必成為你的網羅。」

至於住耶路撒冷的耶布斯人，猶大人不能把他們趕出去，耶布斯人卻在耶路撒冷與猶大人同住，直到今日。

就要從你們面前趕出那裏所有的居民，毀滅他們一切鏨成的石像和他們一切鑄成的偶像，又拆毀他們一切的邱壇。你們要奪那地，住在其中，因我把那地賜給你們為業。你們要按家室拈鬮，承受那地；人多的，要把產業多分給他們；人少的，要把產業少分給他們。拈出何地給何人，就要歸何人。你們要按宗族的支派承受。倘若你們不趕出那地的居民，所容留的居民就必作你們眼中的刺，肋下的荊棘，也必在你們所住的地上擾害你們。而且我素常有意怎樣待他們，也必照樣待你們。」

他們沒有趕出住基色的迦南人；迦南人卻住在以法蓮人中間，成為做苦工的僕人，直到今日。

所以，不要容罪在你們必死的身上作王，使你們順從身子的私慾。也不要將你們的肢體獻給罪作不義的器具；倒要像從死裏復活的人，將自己獻給神，並將肢體作義的器具獻給神。罪必不能作你們的主；因你們不在律法之下，乃在恩典之下。
