So the Lord will cut off from Israel both head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day;the elders and dignitaries are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail. (niv)

“ A curse on anyone who is lax in doing the Lord’s work! A curse on anyone who keeps their sword from bloodshed! (niv)

If he withdraws into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will drag it down to the valley until not so much as a pebble is left.” (niv)

So Joshua and the Israelites defeated them completely, but a few survivors managed to reach their fortified cities. (niv)

Why are we sitting here? Gather together! Let us flee to the fortified cities and perish there! For the Lord our God has doomed us to perish and given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against him. (niv)

David said to Abishai,“ Now Sheba son of Bikri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your master’s men and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and escape from us.” (niv)
