于是，耶和华心生怜悯，说：“我不降这灾了。”

他会当众歌唱说，‘我犯了罪，颠倒是非，祂却没有按我的罪报应我。祂救赎我的灵魂，使之免下深坑，使我的生命得见光明。’

我听见以法莲在为自己悲叹，‘我们就像未经驯服的牛犊，你管教我们，使我们顺服，求你使我们回到你身边，重新复兴，因为你是我们的上帝耶和华。我们曾经离开你，但我们后悔了；我们醒悟之后捶胸顿足，痛悔不已，因早年的所作所为而羞愧难当。’”耶和华说：“以法莲不是我的爱子吗？他不是我喜悦的孩子吗？我虽然常常责备他，但仍然惦记着他。我深深地想念他，我必怜悯他。

你们要撕心般地悔改，而不是撕裂衣服。归向你们的上帝耶和华吧，因为祂有恩典和怜悯，不轻易发怒，有无限的慈爱，不忍心降灾祸。

“在审判的日子，尼尼微人和这世代的人都要起来，尼尼微人要定这个世代的罪，因为他们听到约拿的宣告，就悔改了。看啊！这里有一位比约拿更伟大。

于是他动身回家。“他父亲远远地看见他，就动了慈心，跑上前去抱着他连连亲吻。

他向耶和华祷告说：“耶和华啊，我在家乡的时候岂不早就说过你会这样做吗？我知道你是一位有恩典、有怜悯的上帝，不轻易发怒，充满慈爱，不忍心降灾，所以我才急速逃往他施。
