他便對他們說：『你們將我抬起、拋擲在海中，海就平靜下來、不沖撞你們了；因為我知道這場大風暴臨到你們、是因我的緣故。』然而那些人卻竭力盪槳、要把船攏岸，仍然不能；因為海越來越翻騰而沖撞着他們。他們便呼求永恆主說：『哦永恆主啊，求你不要因這人的性命而使我們滅亡哦！不要使流無辜人之血的罪歸於我們哦！因為永恆主啊、是你照自己的旨意主動這事的。』他們便將約拿抬起、拋擲在海中，海就停止其震怒了。那些人便大大敬畏永恆主，向永恆主獻祭，並且許願。
