又一些人乘船航行在海上，在大水上往来经商；他们看见了耶和华所做的，以及他在深海中的奇妙作为。他一吩咐，暴风就兴起，扬起海洋的波涛。他们上到天空，又下到深渊，在危急中魂飞魄散。他们摇摇晃晃，东倒西歪，好像醉酒的人，他们一切的智慧都毫无用处。于是他们在危难中向耶和华呼求，他就把他们从困境中领出来。他使狂风止息，归于静寂，海洋的波涛也平静了。他们因为波涛平静下来就欢喜，他就引导他们到想要去的安全港。愿他们因耶和华的慈爱，以及他向世人显明的奇妙作为称谢他！

这时候，忽然湖上起了大风暴，以致波浪盖过了船，耶稣却睡着了。门徒们上前来叫醒他，说：“主啊，救救我们，我们没命了！”耶稣对他们说：“为什么胆怯呢？你们这些小信的人哪！”耶稣就起来，斥责风和浪，湖面就变得一片平静。他们都感到惊奇，说：“这个人究竟是什么人？连风和浪也听从他！”

他使云雾从地极上腾，使闪电随雨水而发，又使风从他的库房而出。

这时，南风微微吹起，他们以为正合所愿，就起了锚，沿着克里特岛航行。但是过了不久，一股叫做“东北风”的飓风，从岛上袭来。船被困住，顶不住风，我们只好任凭船被刮走。我们沿着一个叫做克劳达小岛的背风岸行驶的时候，好不容易才控制住救生艇。水手们把救生艇拖上来以后，就用缆绳绕过大船底绑好；又怕在叙尔提斯浅滩上会搁浅，就把锚放低，任船漂流。我们被暴风猛烈地袭击。第二天，他们开始把货物抛在海里。第三天，他们又亲手把船上的用具抛出去。一连好几天见不到太阳和星星，又有暴风雨催逼着，最后我们连获救的希望都断绝了。
