The LORD stirred up against Jehoram the Philistines and the Arabs who lived beside the Cushites.They attacked Judah and swept through it. They carried off everything they found in the royal palace, including his sons and wives. None of his sons was left, except for his youngest, Ahaziah.

King Jehoash of Judah collected all the sacred items that his ancestors Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, kings of Judah, had consecrated, as well as his own sacred items and all the gold that could be found in the treasuries of the LORD’s temple and the royal palace. He sent it all to King Hazael of Syria, who then withdrew from Jerusalem.

The Babylonians broke the two bronze pillars in the LORD’s temple, as well as the movable stands and the big bronze basin called the“ The Sea.” They took the bronze to Babylon.They also took the pots, shovels, trimming shears, pans, and all the bronze utensils used by the priests.The captain of the royal guard took the golden and silver censers and basins.The bronze of the items that King Solomon made for the LORD’s temple– including the two pillars, the big bronze basin called“ The Sea,” the twelve bronze bulls under“ The Sea,” and the movable stands– was too heavy to be weighed.Each of the pillars was about twenty-seven feet high. The bronze top of one pillar was about four and a half feet high and had bronze latticework and pomegranate shaped ornaments all around it. The second pillar with its latticework was like it.

While under the influence of the wine, Belshazzar issued an order to bring in the gold and silver vessels– the ones that Nebuchadnezzar his father had confiscated from the temple in Jerusalem– so that the king and his nobles, together with his wives and his concubines, could drink from them.So they brought the gold and silver vessels that had been confiscated from the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, together with his wives and concubines, drank from them.

The Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the temple of Dagon, where they positioned it beside Dagon.When the residents of Ashdod got up early the next day, Dagon was lying on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and set him back in his place.But when they got up early the following day, Dagon was again lying on the ground before the ark of the LORD. The head of Dagon and his two hands were sheared off and were lying at the threshold. Only Dagon’s body was left intact.( For this reason, to this very day, neither Dagon’s priests nor anyone else who enters Dagon’s temple step on Dagon’s threshold in Ashdod.)

Hezekiah gave him all the silver in the LORD’s temple and in the treasuries of the royal palace.At that time King Hezekiah of Judah stripped the metal overlays from the doors of the LORD’s temple and from the posts which he had plated and gave them to the king of Assyria.
