My people, mourn like a virgin who is dressed in the clothes of sadness. She is sad because she has lost the young man she was going to marry.

Lament like a virgin wearing sackcloth for the bridegroom of her youth.

Weep like a bride dressed in black, mourning the death of her husband.

Grieve like a young woman dressed in sackcloth, mourning for the husband of her youth.

Wail like a virgin clothed with sackcloth For the groom of her youth.

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth For the husband of her youth.

This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Consider now! Call for the wailing women to come; send for the most skillful of them.Let them come quickly and wail over us till our eyes overflow with tears and water streams from our eyelids.The sound of wailing is heard from Zion:‘ How ruined we are! Put on sackcloth, you priests, and mourn; wail, you who minister before the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister before my God; for the grain offerings and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God.Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord.Alas for that day! Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit. And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth. (niv)

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. (niv)

I will turn your religious festivals into mourning and all your singing into weeping. I will make all of you wear sackcloth and shave your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day. (niv)
