新酒枯竭，葡萄树衰残，心里欢乐的都叹息。欢快的鼓声止息，欢腾者的喧嚷停止，欢快的琴声也止息了。他们不再喝酒唱歌；烈酒对饮者也变得苦涩。荒凉的城邑破败，家家关门闭户，无人能进。街上有为酒哭喊的声音；一切欢乐都已黯淡，地上的喜乐都已离去。

安然无虑的女子啊，再过一年多，你们就必颤抖！因为葡萄的收获期必不再有，果实的收获期也必不再来。安逸的妇女啊，你们战兢吧！安然无虑的女子啊，你们颤抖吧！你们脱下衣服，赤着身子，束上麻布吧！为着美好的田地，为着多结果实的葡萄树，你们捶胸哀哭吧！

“你们要谨慎自守，免得你们的心因宴乐、醉酒和今生的忧虑变得迟钝，那日子就会像网罗一样突然临到你们，因为那日子将要临到所有住在全地面上的人。你们要时刻警醒、祷告，使你们能够逃避这一切将要发生的事，好站立在人子面前。”

现在来吧，你们这些富有的人哪！应当为那些将要临到你们的惨祸而痛哭、哀号！

“有一个财主，身穿紫色袍子和细麻衣，天天奢华宴乐。

再者，你们已经看见了这个时代，是你们早应该从沉睡中醒过来的时候，因为比我们初信的时候，我们的救恩现在更近了。黑夜已深，白昼近了。所以，我们要脱去黑暗的行为，配上光明的兵器。我们要行事端正，好像在白昼中那样：不可荒宴、醉酒；不可淫乱、好色；不可纷争、嫉妒。相反，要穿上主耶稣基督；不要为了私欲而在属肉体的事上做任何安排。

财主在阴间的痛苦中，举目远远地望见亚伯拉罕，又望见拉撒路在他怀里，就呼唤说：‘我父亚伯拉罕，可怜我吧！请打发拉撒路用指头蘸点水，凉一下我的舌头吧，因为我在这火焰里，极其痛苦！’“可是亚伯拉罕说：‘孩子啊，你当想起，你一生怎样享了你的福，而拉撒路怎样受了苦；但如今他在这里受到安慰，你却在痛苦中。
