你要把這些話不斷地教訓你的兒女，無論你坐在家裡，或行在路上，或躺下，或起來的時候，都要談論。

就是我們所聽過所知道的，也是我們的列祖告訴我們的，我們不把這些事向他們的子孫隱瞞，卻要把耶和華應得的讚美、他的能力，和他所行的奇事，都向後代的人述說。他在雅各設立法度，在以色列中制訂律法，就是他吩咐我們的列祖，去教訓他們的子孫的，好使後代的人，包括將要出生的兒女，都可以知道；他們也要起來，告訴他們的子孫，使他們信靠神，不忘記神的作為，謹守他的誡命；免得他們像他們的列祖，成了頑梗悖逆的一代，心不堅定的一代，他們的心對神不忠。

日後你的兒子若是問你們：‘這是甚麼意思？’你就要回答他：‘耶和華曾經用大能的手把我們從埃及為奴之家領出來。

這可以在你們中間作記號；如果日後你們的子孫問你們，說：‘這些石頭對你們有甚麼意思？’你們就可以告訴他們：‘這是因為約旦河的水在耶和華的約櫃前被截斷了；約櫃過約旦河的時候，約旦河的水被截斷了。所以這些石頭要給以色列人作記念，直到永遠。’”

神啊！你在古時，在我們列祖的日子所作的事，我們親耳聽見了，我們的列祖也給我們述說過。

約書亞對以色列人說：“如果日後你們的子孫問他們的父親說：‘這些石頭是甚麼意思？’那時，你們就要告訴你們的子孫，說：‘以色列人曾經在乾地上走過了這約旦河。’

耶和華對摩西說：“你要到法老那裡去，因為我已經使他的心和他臣僕的心剛硬，為要在他們中間顯出我這些神蹟；並且要你把愚弄埃及人的事，和我在他們中間顯出的神蹟，都講給你的子孫聽；使你們知道我是耶和華。”

世世代代的人都要頌讚你的作為，他們要傳揚你大能的作為。

只有活人才能稱謝你，像我今日一樣；作父親的，要讓兒女知道你的信實。

神啊！到我年老髮白的時候，求你仍不要離棄我，等我把你的能力向下一代傳揚，把你的大能向後世所有的人傳揚。
