Though they wished to dispute with him, they could not answer him one time out of a thousand.

They might wish to argue with him. But they couldn’t answer him even once in a thousand times.

If one wished to contend with him, one could not answer him once in a thousand times.

If someone wanted to take God to court, would it be possible to answer him even once in a thousand times?

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. (niv)

Why do you complain to him that he responds to no one’s words? (niv)

Even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me; if I were blameless, it would pronounce me guilty. (niv)

“ He is not a mere mortal like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court.If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together, (niv)

If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. (niv)

But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God?“ Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it,‘ Why did you make me like this?’” (niv)

But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. (niv)

If only I knew where to find him; if only I could go to his dwelling!I would state my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.I would find out what he would answer me, and consider what he would say to me.Would he vigorously oppose me? No, he would not press charges against me.There the upright can establish their innocence before him, and there I would be delivered forever from my judge. (niv)

For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me. (niv)
