「強辯者豈可與全能者爭論？與上帝辯駁的人請作出答覆。」

“挑剔是非的，怎能與全能者爭辯呢？責備神的，回答這個問題吧。”

『好辯的哪可同全能者挑剔是非呢？譴責上帝的儘管回答呀。』

好駁折者、可與全能者爭論乎、與上帝辯者、尚其答之、

我全能之上帝也、爾昔欲與我辨、今何詞以對。

好辯者、欲與全能之主爭乎、與天主辯者、今可答之、

“ Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!”

“ I am the Mighty One. Will the man who argues with me correct me? Let him who brings charges against me answer me!”

“ Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who argues with God give an answer.

“ Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who rebukes God give an answer.”

“ Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”

Shall he that cavilleth contend with the Almighty? He that argueth with God, let him answer it.

Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who argues with God give an answer.

Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct[ him]? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

“ Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let the person who accuses God give him an answer!”

“ Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

For,“ Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.

So why are you bringing a charge against him? Why say he does not respond to people’s complaints?

Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice? Does he need instruction about what is good? Did someone teach him what is right or show him the path of justice?

Remove your heavy hand from me, and don’t terrify me with your awesome presence.Now summon me, and I will answer! Or let me speak to you, and you reply.Tell me, what have I done wrong? Show me my rebellion and my sin.Why do you turn away from me? Why do you treat me as your enemy?Would you terrify a leaf blown by the wind? Would you chase dry straw?“ You write bitter accusations against me and bring up all the sins of my youth.You put my feet in stocks. You examine all my paths. You trace all my footprints.

For who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice?And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back?For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

For he attacks me with a storm and repeatedly wounds me without cause.He will not let me catch my breath, but fills me instead with bitter sorrows.

Why is life given to those with no future, those God has surrounded with difficulties?

“ What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying,‘ Stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim,‘ How clumsy can you be?’How terrible it would be if a newborn baby said to its father,‘ Why was I born?’ or if it said to its mother,‘ Why did you make me this way?’”This is what the Lord says— the Holy One of Israel and your Creator:“ Do you question what I do for my children? Do you give me orders about the work of my hands?

If someone wanted to take God to court, would it be possible to answer him even once in a thousand times?

“ Why do you quote this proverb concerning the land of Israel:‘ The parents have eaten sour grapes, but their children’s mouths pucker at the taste’?

But it is God who has wronged me, capturing me in his net.“ I cry out,‘ Help!’ but no one answers me. I protest, but there is no justice.God has blocked my way so I cannot move. He has plunged my path into darkness.He has stripped me of my honor and removed the crown from my head.He has demolished me on every side, and I am finished. He has uprooted my hope like a fallen tree.His fury burns against me; he counts me as an enemy.

“ Oh, why give light to those in misery, and life to those who are bitter?

“ I vow by the living God, who has taken away my rights, by the Almighty who has embittered my soul—

Well then, you might say,“ Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven’t they simply done what he makes them do?”No, don’t say that. Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it,“ Why have you made me like this?”When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into?In the same way, even though God has the right to show his anger and his power, he is very patient with those on whom his anger falls, who are destined for destruction.He does this to make the riches of his glory shine even brighter on those to whom he shows mercy, who were prepared in advance for glory.

He who gives me justice is near. Who will dare to bring charges against me now? Where are my accusers? Let them appear!

When they received their pay, they protested to the owner,

What do you gain by oppressing me? Why do you reject me, the work of your own hands, while smiling on the schemes of the wicked?Are your eyes like those of a human? Do you see things only as people see them?Is your lifetime only as long as ours? Is your life so shortthat you must quickly probe for my guilt and search for my sin?Although you know I am not guilty, no one can rescue me from your hands.

For then you would guard my steps, instead of watching for my sins.My sins would be sealed in a pouch, and you would cover my guilt.

Why won’t you leave me alone, at least long enough for me to swallow!If I have sinned, what have I done to you, O watcher of all humanity? Why make me your target? Am I a burden to you?Why not just forgive my sin and take away my guilt? For soon I will lie down in the dust and die. When you look for me, I will be gone.”

“ God is not a mortal like me, so I cannot argue with him or take him to trial.If only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together.The mediator could make God stop beating me, and I would no longer live in terror of his punishment.Then I could speak to him without fear, but I cannot do that in my own strength.

was to watch me, and if I sinned, you would not forgive my guilt.If I am guilty, too bad for me; and even if I’m innocent, I can’t hold my head high, because I am filled with shame and misery.And if I hold my head high, you hunt me like a lion and display your awesome power against me.Again and again you witness against me. You pour out your growing anger on me and bring fresh armies against me.

“ Why wasn’t I born dead? Why didn’t I die as I came from the womb?Why was I laid on my mother’s lap? Why did she nurse me at her breasts?

What? Do we dare to rouse the Lord’s jealousy? Do you think we are stronger than he is?

You have become cruel toward me. You use your power to persecute me.

Am I a sea monster or a dragon that you must place me under guard?

God has handed me over to sinners. He has tossed me into the hands of the wicked.“ I was living quietly until he shattered me. He took me by the neck and broke me in pieces. Then he set me up as his target,and now his archers surround me. His arrows pierce me without mercy. The ground is wet with my blood.Again and again he smashes against me, charging at me like a warrior.I wear burlap to show my grief. My pride lies in the dust.My eyes are red with weeping; dark shadows circle my eyes.Yet I have done no wrong, and my prayer is pure.“ O earth, do not conceal my blood. Let it cry out on my behalf.Even now my witness is in heaven. My advocate is there on high.My friends scorn me, but I pour out my tears to God.I need someone to mediate between God and me, as a person mediates between friends.

Everything has already been decided. It was known long ago what each person would be. So there’s no use arguing with God about your destiny.
