If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment.

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.

If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat.

So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

She glorified herself and lived in luxury, so match it now with torment and sorrow. She boasted in her heart,‘ I am queen on my throne. I am no helpless widow, and I have no reason to mourn.’

You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter.

The same destiny ultimately awaits everyone, whether righteous or wicked, good or bad, ceremonially clean or unclean, religious or irreligious. Good people receive the same treatment as sinners, and people who make promises to God are treated like people who don’t.It seems so wrong that everyone under the sun suffers the same fate. Already twisted by evil, people choose their own mad course, for they have no hope. There is nothing ahead but death anyway.

“ If only you would prepare your heart and lift up your hands to him in prayer!Get rid of your sins, and leave all iniquity behind you.Then your face will brighten with innocence. You will be strong and free of fear.You will forget your misery; it will be like water flowing away.Your life will be brighter than the noonday. Even darkness will be as bright as morning.Having hope will give you courage. You will be protected and will rest in safety.You will lie down unafraid, and many will look to you for help.
