When you say his anger never punishes sin, he won’t hear you. He won’t listen when you say he doesn’t pay any attention to evil.

但如今因他未曾发怒降罚，也不甚理会狂傲，

但如今因他未曾发怒降罚，也一点都不理会狂傲，

你还说祂没有发怒降罚，也不理会罪恶。

但现在因为他还没有在忿怒中降罚，也不大理会人的过犯；

但如今因他未曾發怒降罰，也一點都不理會狂傲，

你還說祂沒有發怒降罰，也不理會罪惡。

但現在因為他還沒有在忿怒中降罰，也不大理會人的過犯；

如今呢、他的忿怒既未曾行察罰，你便說他不很理會人的過犯。』

今因上帝未加以怒、不甚介意於傲慢、

今上帝猶未震怒、薄加譴責。

今雖言天主震怒以降罰、猶不視為降罰、尚未細察大過、

and further, that his anger never punishes and he does not take the least notice of wickedness.

And now, because his anger does not punish, and he does not take much note of transgression,

You say he does not respond to sinners with anger and is not greatly concerned about wickedness.

But now, because God’s anger does not punish and he does not pay attention to transgression,

And now, because He has not avenged His anger, Nor has He acknowledged wrongdoing well,

And now, because He has not punished in His anger, Nor taken much notice of folly,

But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, Neither doth he greatly regard arrogance;

But now, because God’s anger does not punish and He does not pay attention to transgression,

But now, because[ it is] not[ so], he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth[ it] not in great extremity:

And further, when you say that his anger does not punish, and that he does not know transgression!

But now, because he has not visited in his anger, neither does he greatly regard arrogance.

Then I will punish them for their sins. I will strike them with a rod. I will whip them for their evil acts.

Do those who are dead speak about your love? Do those who are in the grave tell how faithful you are?Are your wonderful deeds known in that dark place? Are your holy acts known in that land where the dead are forgotten?Lord, I cry out to you for help. In the morning I pray to you.Lord, why do you say no to me? Why do you turn your face away from me?I’ve been in pain ever since I was young. I’ve been close to death. You have made me suffer terrible things. I have lost all hope.Your great anger has swept over me. Your terrors have destroyed me.

The Lord continues,“ People of Ephraim, how can I give you up? Israel, how can I hand you over to your enemies? Can I destroy you as I did the town of Admah? Can I treat you like Zeboyim? My heart is stirred inside me. It is filled with pity for you.I will not be so angry with you anymore. I will not completely destroy you again. After all, I am God. I am not a mere man. I am the Holy One among you. I will not direct my anger against their cities.

No training seems pleasant at the time. In fact, it seems painful. But later on it produces a harvest of godliness and peace. It does this for those who have been trained by it.So put your hands to work. Strengthen your legs for the journey.

But the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said,“ You did not trust in me enough to honor me. You did not honor me as the holy God in front of the Israelites. So you will not bring this community into the land I am giving them.”

Even if God kills me, I’ll still put my hope in him. I’ll argue my case in front of him.

“ So how can I disagree with God? How can I possibly argue with him?

‘ I warn and correct those I love. So be sincere, and turn away from your sins.

Now trouble comes to you. And you are unhappy about it. It strikes you down. And you are afraid.

And now you will have to be silent. You will not be able to speak until after John is born. That’s because you did not believe my words. They will come true at the time God has chosen.”

Terrors sweep over me. My honor is driven away as if by the wind. My safety vanishes like a cloud.“ Now my life is slipping away. Days of suffering grab hold of me.At night my bones hurt. My aches and pains never stop.God’s great power becomes like clothes to me. He chokes me like the neck of my shirt.He throws me down into the mud. I’m nothing but dust and ashes.“ God, I cry out to you. But you don’t answer me. I stand up. But all you do is look at me.You do mean things to me. You attack me with your mighty power.You pick me up and blow me away with the wind. You toss me around in the storm.I know that you will bring me down to death. That’s what you have appointed for everyone.“ No one would crush people when they cry out for help in their trouble.Haven’t I wept for those who are in trouble? Haven’t I felt sorry for poor people?I hoped good things would happen, but something evil came. I looked for light, but all I saw was darkness.My insides are always churning. Nothing but days of suffering are ahead of me.My skin has become dark, but the sun didn’t do it. I stand up in the community and cry out for help.I’ve become a brother to wild dogs. Owls are my companions.My skin grows black and peels. My body burns with fever.My lyre is tuned to sadness. My flute makes a sound like weeping.
