God spares his soul from the Pit, his life from crossing the river of death.

to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword.

He wants to stop them from going down into the grave. He doesn’t want them to be killed by swords.

Or do you despise the riches of his kindness, restraint, and patience, not recognizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

He doesn’t believe he will return from darkness; he is destined for the sword.

He redeemed my soul from going down to the Pit, and I will continue to see the light.”

The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.

Also, regard the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him.

When the jailer woke up and saw the doors of the prison standing open, he drew his sword and was going to kill himself, since he thought the prisoners had escaped.But Paul called out in a loud voice,“ Don’t harm yourself, because we’re all here!”The jailer called for lights, rushed in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.He escorted them out and said,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”They said,“ Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved— you and your household.”And they spoke the word of the Lord to him along with everyone in his house.He took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds. Right away he and all his family were baptized.

and to be gracious to him and say,“ Spare him from going down to the Pit; I have found a ransom,”

in order to turn him back from the Pit, so he may shine with the light of life.

He draws near to the Pit, and his life to the executioners.
