if I have regarded the sun in its radiance or the moon moving in splendor,

When you look up to the sky and see the sun, moon, and stars– the whole heavenly creation– you must not be seduced to worship and serve them, for the LORD your God has assigned them to all the people of the world.

Instead we will do everything we vowed we would do. For then we had plenty of food, were well-off, and had no troubles.

He removed from the entrance to the LORD’s temple the statues of horses that the kings of Judah had placed there in honor of the sun god.( They were kept near the room of Nathan Melech the eunuch, which was situated among the courtyards.) He burned up the chariots devoted to the sun god.

He eliminated the pagan priests whom the kings of Judah had appointed to offer sacrifices on the high places in the cities of Judah and in the area right around Jerusalem.( They offered sacrifices to Baal, the sun god, the moon god, the constellations, and all the stars in the sky.)

They will be spread out and exposed to the sun, the moon and the stars. These are things they adored and served, things to which they paid allegiance, from which they sought guidance, and worshiped. The bones of these people will never be regathered and reburied. They will be like manure used to fertilize the ground.

When I look up at the heavens, which your fingers made, and see the moon and the stars, which you set in place,Of what importance is the human race, that you should notice them? Of what importance is mankind, that you should pay attention to them,

God made two great lights– the greater light to rule over the day and the lesser light to rule over the night. He made the stars also.God placed the lights in the expanse of the sky to shine on the earth,to preside over the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw that it was good.
