“ Suppose I’ve put my trust in gold. I’ve said to pure gold,‘ You make me feel secure.’

“我若以黄金为指望，对精金说：你是我的倚靠；

“我若以黄金为我的指望，对纯金说：你是我的倚靠；

“我若以黄金为我的指望，对纯金说：你是我的倚靠；

“我若仰仗金子，依靠纯金，

我若以黄金为我所信靠的，又对精金说：‘你是我所靠赖的’；

我若以黃金為指望，對精金說：你是我的倚靠；

「我若以黃金為我的指望，對純金說：你是我的倚靠；

「我若以黃金為我的指望，對純金說：你是我的倚靠；

「我若仰仗金子，依靠純金，

我若以黃金為我所信靠的，又對精金說：‘你是我所靠賴的’；

『我若以金子為我所安心信賴的，而對黃金說：「你是我所倚靠」；

我若惟金是望、謂精金曰、爾為我之所恃、

我不以金為寶、亦不以兼金為可恃。

何曾以金為望、何曾云精金為我所恃、

“ If I have put my trust in gold or said to pure gold,‘ You are my security,’

“ If I have made gold my trust or called fine gold my confidence,

“ Have I put my trust in money or felt secure because of my gold?

If I placed my confidence in gold or called fine gold my trust,

“ If I have put my confidence in gold, And called fine gold my trust,

“ If I have made gold my hope, Or said to fine gold,‘ You are my confidence’;

If I have made gold my hope, And have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

If I placed my confidence in gold or called fine gold my trust,

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold,[ Thou art] my confidence;

“ If I have put my confidence in gold or said to pure gold,‘ You are my security!’

“ If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold,‘ You are my confidence;’

Those who trust in their riches will fall. But those who do right will be as healthy as a green leaf.

The wealth of rich people is like a city that makes them feel safe. But having nothing destroys those who are poor.

They trust in their wealth. They brag about how rich they are.No one can pay for the life of anyone else. No one can give God what that would cost.

“ Just look at this fellow! He didn’t depend on God for his safety. He put his trust in all his wealth. He grew strong by destroying others!”

Then he said to them,“ Watch out! Be on your guard against wanting to have more and more things. Life is not made up of how much a person has.”

Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying.“ Jacob has taken everything our father owned,” they said.“ He has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

Don’t trust in money you have taken from others. Don’t put false hope in things you have stolen. Even if your riches grow, don’t put your trust in them.

If you don’t, I might have too much. Then I might say I don’t know you. I might say,‘ Who is the Lord?’ Or I might become poor and steal. Then I would bring shame to the name of my God.

Love for money causes all kinds of evil. Some people want to get rich. They have wandered away from the faith. They have wounded themselves with many sorrows.

So put to death anything that comes from sinful desires. Get rid of sexual sins and impure acts. Don’t let your feelings get out of control. Remove from your life all evil desires. Stop always wanting more and more. You might as well be worshiping statues of gods.

The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again,“ Children, how hard it is to enter God’s kingdom!Is it hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle? It is even harder for someone who is rich to enter God’s kingdom!”

They won’t take anything with them when they die. Their riches won’t go down to the grave with them.

Command people who are rich in this world not to be proud. Tell them not to put their hope in riches. Wealth is so uncertain. Command those who are rich to put their hope in God. He richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

But suppose you don’t obey his commands. And suppose you have plenty to eat. You build fine houses and live in them.The number of your herds and flocks increases. You also get more and more silver and gold. And everything you have multiplies.Then your hearts will become proud. And you will forget the Lord your God. The Lord brought you out of Egypt. That’s the land where you were slaves.
