You are God, my place of safety. Why have you turned your back on me? Why must I go around in sorrow? Why am I beaten down by my enemies?

I say to God my Rock,“ Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go around in sorrow? Why am I treated so badly by my enemies?”

I am bent over. I’ve been brought very low. All day long I go around weeping.

I am a man who has suffered greatly. The Lord has used the Babylonians to punish my people.He has driven me away. He has made me walk in darkness instead of light.He has turned his powerful hand against me. He has done it again and again, all day long.

“ I cry out,‘ Someone harmed me!’ But I don’t get any reply. I call out for help. But I’m not treated fairly.

People looked down on him. They didn’t accept him. He knew all about pain and suffering. He was like someone people turn their faces away from. We looked down on him. We didn’t have any respect for him.He suffered the things we should have suffered. He took on himself the pain that should have been ours. But we thought God was punishing him. We thought God was wounding him and making him suffer.
