because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist them.

That’s because I saved poor people who cried out for help. I saved helpless children whose fathers had died.

維彼窮獨、援手無人、呼籲於王、必加拯救兮、

貧者有求、爾弗之聽、則汝有求、亦莫爾應。

上帝在聖所、孤子蒙眷佑、嫠婦得倚賴兮、

為孤寡伸冤、矜恤旅人、賜之衣食。

勿欺孤寡、若欺之、則其籲我、我必聽聞。我怒必烈、以刃誅爾、寡爾妻、孤爾子。

雖在公庭、左右環立、我未嘗鞭扑孤子。

爾之罪惡甚眾、爾之過失無數。爾無故取同儕之質、奪貧寒之褐。不飲食饑渴、強者任其得土、尊者聽其得廬、嫠者使之徒反、孤者去其所恃、

遇貧乏者辟之於途、令無地可容。

簞食之微、不敢自食、亦必與孤子共。

或曰、我已頻鬻子女、易穀養生。或曰、飢饉既甚、我已質田園宅第於人以糴穀。或曰、我之田園、已質於人、得金以納稅。我及我子、與同宗何異、奚以我之子女、為人服役、我有數女為人所玷、欲拯無能、我之田園、為人所據。民出怨言若此、我聞之甚怒、中心籌畫、責諸伯世職、曰、爾貸同宗金、權子母、果何為乎、我集會眾、告之曰、我之同宗、猶大人、鬻於異邦、我盡力贖之、爾乃以同宗為奇貨乎、眾無詞以對。我又曰、爾所為不善、尚其寅畏上帝、則敵我之異邦人、誰敢侮予。我與宗人僕從、未嘗誅求於民、或金或穀我弗取、放利之事、爾不可行。爾得同儕田疇、葡萄園、橄欖囿、宅第、又征金穀酒油之利、今悉當反之。眾言必將反之、不敢取利、遵命以行。我使祭司命眾發誓、必踐其言。我則拂去衣上塵、曰、凡不踐其言、上帝必去之、有如此衣、離家室、失產業、使之匱乏。會眾曰、正所願也、遂頌讚耶和華。嗣後民咸從斯言。

謂爾曹聽訟、行私袒惡、將至何時兮、維彼孤子、貧乏煢獨、當為之伸冤兮、窮民遭難、爾其援手、毋為惡人所害兮。

惟眷顧孤寡於患難間、處世而自守無玷、是誠虔共、無纖垢於父上帝前、

無罪而就死地、爾其拯之。勿諉曰不知、鑒察人心、保爾生命者、莫不悉爾隱微、彼豈不視人所行、而加賞罰。
