And he said to the human race,“ The fear of the Lord— that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.”

He said to human beings,“ Have respect for the Lord. That will prove you are wise. Avoid evil. That will show you have understanding.”

And he said to man,‘ Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”

He said to mankind,“ The fear of the Lord— that is wisdom. And to turn from evil is understanding.”

And to mankind He said,‘ Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to turn away from evil is understanding.’ ”

Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

Obey them completely, and you will display your wisdom and intelligence among the surrounding nations. When they hear all these decrees, they will exclaim,‘ How wise and prudent are the people of this great nation!’

That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying.For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic.For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.

Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

The path of the virtuous leads away from evil; whoever follows that path is safe.

“ The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.

“ I call to you, to all of you! I raise my voice to all people.You simple people, use good judgment. You foolish people, show some understanding.

Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways.

before he had made the earth and fields and the first handfuls of soil.I was there when he established the heavens, when he drew the horizon on the oceans.I was there when he set the clouds above, when he established springs deep in the earth.I was there when he set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries. And when he marked off the earth’s foundations,I was the architect at his side. I was his constant delight, rejoicing always in his presence.And how happy I was with the world he created; how I rejoiced with the human family!“ And so, my children, listen to me, for all who follow my ways are joyful.

Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

The instruction of the wise is like a life giving fountain; those who accept it avoid the snares of death.

But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription:“ The Lord knows those who are his,” and“ All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”
