But you have seen all this, yet you say all these useless things to me.

其實你們也曾親眼目睹，為何還講這些虛妄之言？

看哪、你們自己也都見過，為甚麼你們全變為虛妄呢？

爾皆見此、何故成為虛妄、

爾曹咸知斯理、何故出此迂談。

爾曹既知之、何故出此虛誕之語、

You have all seen this yourselves. Why then this meaningless talk?

You have seen those things yourselves. So why do you continue your useless talk?

Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?

All of you have seen this for yourselves, why do you keep up this empty talk?

Behold, all of you have seen it; Why then do you talk of nothing?

Surely all of you have seen it; Why then do you behave with complete nonsense?

Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; Why then are ye become altogether vain?

All of you have seen this for yourselves, why do you keep up this empty talk?

Behold, all ye yourselves have seen[ it]; why then are ye thus altogether vain?

If you yourselves have all seen this, Why in the world do you continue this meaningless talk?

Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?

Bear with me, and let me speak. After I have spoken, you may resume mocking me.

This, too, I carefully explored: Even though the actions of godly and wise people are in God’s hands, no one knows whether God will show them favor.The same destiny ultimately awaits everyone, whether righteous or wicked, good or bad, ceremonially clean or unclean, religious or irreligious. Good people receive the same treatment as sinners, and people who make promises to God are treated like people who don’t.It seems so wrong that everyone under the sun suffers the same fate. Already twisted by evil, people choose their own mad course, for they have no hope. There is nothing ahead but death anyway.

“ How long will you torture me? How long will you try to crush me with your words?You have already insulted me ten times. You should be ashamed of treating me so badly.

Won’t you ever stop blowing hot air? What makes you keep on talking?

And this is not all that is meaningless in our world. In this life, good people are often treated as though they were wicked, and wicked people are often treated as though they were good. This is so meaningless!

Honest words can be painful, but what do your criticisms amount to?Do you think your words are convincing when you disregard my cry of desperation?You would even send an orphan into slavery or sell a friend.Look at me! Would I lie to your face?Stop assuming my guilt, for I have done no wrong.

As for you, you smear me with lies. As physicians, you are worthless quacks.If only you could be silent! That’s the wisest thing you could do.Listen to my charge; pay attention to my arguments.“ Are you defending God with lies? Do you make your dishonest arguments for his sake?Will you slant your testimony in his favor? Will you argue God’s case for him?What will happen when he finds out what you are doing? Can you fool him as easily as you fool people?

You will tell me of rich and wicked people whose houses have vanished because of their sins.But ask those who have been around, and they will tell you the truth.Evil people are spared in times of calamity and are allowed to escape disaster.

“ How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the weak!How you have enlightened my stupidity! What wise advice you have offered!Where have you gotten all these wise sayings? Whose spirit speaks through you?

I am surrounded by mockers. I watch how bitterly they taunt me.
