If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?If I have withheld the poor from[ their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;( For from my youth he was brought up with me, as[ with] a father, and I have guided her from my mother’s womb;)If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;If his loins have not blessed me, and[ if] he were[ not] warmed with the fleece of my sheep;If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:[ Then] let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

[ Some] remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed[ thereof].They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.Behold,[ as] wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness[ yieldeth] food for them[ and] for[ their] children.They reap[ every one] his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that[ they have] no covering in the cold.They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.They cause[ him] to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf[ from] the hungry;[ Which] make oil within their walls,[ and] tread[ their] winepresses, and suffer thirst.Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly[ to them].

To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,

So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of[ such as were] oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors[ there was] power; but they had no comforter.

Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices[ which] ye wrongfully imagine against me.For ye say, Where[ is] the house of the prince? and where[ are] the dwelling places of the wicked?

For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts[ is] the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.Woe unto them that join house to house,[ that] lay field to field, till[ there be] no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!

For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that[ are] in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.And ye shall go out at the breaches, every[ cow at that which is] before her; and ye shall cast[ them] into the palace, saith the LORD.

Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for[ he that is] higher than the highest regardeth; and[ there be] higher than they.

And they covet fields, and take[ them] by violence; and houses, and take[ them] away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever.

If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because[ it is] none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set[ him] in safety[ from him that] puffeth at him.
