Job had three friends named Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They heard about all the troubles that had come to Job. So they started out from their homes. They had agreed to meet together. They wanted to go and show their concern for Job. They wanted to comfort him.

Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came each from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They made an appointment together to come to show him sympathy and comfort him.

萬有之主耶和華、以以東之事告眾、曰、在提慢豈無哲士、賢人、豈無智慧、豈無智謀、

約百兄弟姊妹、與素相識者、俱至、同食於其家、聞耶和華降災、則解其憂、慰其心、各饋金一、環一。

以利法生提慢、阿抹、西波、迦但基納。

以掃眾子中有伯爵者、其畧如左、以掃冢子以利法子孫中有提慢伯、阿抹伯、西波伯、基納伯、

友朋敦誼、兄弟急難。

亞伯拉罕妾基都喇生心蘭、約山、米但、米田、益八、書亞。約山子示巴、底但。

斯溪也、提馬之賓旅望之、示巴之行人慕之、

如一體苦、百體同苦、一體榮、百體同樂、

猶太人多就馬大馬利亞、為其兄弟而唁之、

書亞人必達曰、

人遭患難、其友必加矜憫、惟我友朋、不畏全能之主。

子女群來相勸、父不受慰、曰、我必悲哀、至於幽冥、就子乃已、父之痛子如此。

父之良朋、己之密友、爾與之善、相愛靡已、則遘難之時、毋庸詣兄弟之室、蓋兄弟遠離、不如鄰里在側。

書亞人必達曰、

上帝譴我、望友矜憫。

見人之囚則憫之、如己與同囚、見人之厄則矜之、以己亦具此身、

爾曹言詞誕妄、如庸醫治疾、斷不能愈。

如爾之言、聞之素矣。爾意在慰藉、反使我心戚戚。

同心之友、厭棄我躬、眷愛之人、反來攻我、

提慢人以利法曰、

泛交眾人、必致損害、得一知己、愈於兄弟。

耶和華諭約百、已竟其詞、則語提慢人以利法曰、我僕約百所言、較為可許、爾與二友、辭不當理、干我震怒、恐我鑒爾妄行、而加報施、今當取牛七。羊七、請我僕約百代爾燔祭、為爾祈禱、蓋約百我眷顧之焉。

而友朋嘲笑、不禁潸然出涕、求於上帝。

二難並至、饑饉薦臻、干戈不息、將滅斯邦、孰能慰藉爾、以解爾憂。
