Job had three friends named Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They heard about all the troubles that had come to Job. So they started out from their homes. They had agreed to meet together. They wanted to go and show their concern for Job. They wanted to comfort him.

Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came each from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They made an appointment together to come to show him sympathy and comfort him.

朋友乃時常相愛；弟兄是為應付患難而生的。

提瑪結伴的行路人瞻望着，示巴旅行的同夥痴等着。

若是一個肢體受苦，眾肢體就一同受苦；若是一個肢體得光榮，眾肢體就一同喜樂。

有許多猶太人來看馬大和馬利亞，要為她們兄弟的事撫慰她們。

書亞人比勒達回答說：

『不以慈愛待朋友的、是撇棄敬畏全能者的心。

他的眾兒女都起來勸他停止服喪，他卻不肯停止服喪，說：『我要哀悼着下陰間到我兒子那裏。』約瑟的父親為約瑟哀哭了。

你的朋友、和你父親的朋友、你都不可離棄。你遭患難的日子、不可上你弟兄家裏去。附近的鄰居勝過遠隔的弟兄。

書亞人比勒達回答說：

我的朋友啊，恩待我吧，恩待我！因為上帝的手擊打我了。

你們要顧念被捆鎖的人，像同受捆鎖一樣：顧念受虐待的人，像自己也同在一個身體之內一樣。

你們呢，你們是粉飾虛假的，是無用的醫生。

『這樣的話我聽了許多了；你們都是叫人苦惱的安慰者。

我親密的人都厭惡我，我平日所愛的人竟向我翻臉。

提幔人以利法回答說：

有些朋友只是做同伴；但有愛友、比弟兄更親密。

永恆主對約伯說了這些話以後，永恆主對提幔人以利法說：『我向你和你兩個朋友發怒；因為你們議論到我、不如我僕人約伯說的正確。

我的朋友譏誚我，我的眼直向上帝流淚。

毁滅和破毁、饑荒和刀兵——這兩樣臨到你，誰為你悲傷呢？誰安慰你呢？
