People of the west are appalled at his fate; those of the east are seized with horror.

What has happened to them shocks the people in the west. It terrifies the people in the east.

They of the west are appalled at his day, and horror seizes them of the east.

People in the west are appalled at their fate; people in the east are horrified.

Those in the west are appalled at his fate, And those in the east are seized with horror.

Those in the west are astonished at his day, As those in the east are frightened.

They that come after shall be astonished at his day, As they that went before were affrighted.

People of the west are appalled at his fate; people of the east are seized with horror, saying,

Those who come after will be astonished at his day, as those who went before were frightened.

The Lord laughs at him because he sees that his day is coming.

Put all her young bulls to the sword; let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them because their day has come, the time of their punishment.

And you, profane and wicked prince of Israel, the day has come for your punishment.

They will crush you and your children among you to the ground, and they will not leave one stone on another in your midst, because you did not recognize the time when God visited you.”

He has removed my brothers from me; my acquaintances have abandoned me.My relatives stop coming by, and my close friends have forgotten me.My house guests and female servants regard me as a stranger; I am a foreigner in their sight.I call for my servant, but he does not answer, even if I beg him with my own mouth.My breath is offensive to my wife, and my own family finds me repulsive.Even young boys scorn me. When I stand up, they mock me.All of my best friends despise me, and those I love have turned against me.

Remember, LORD, what the Edomites said that day at Jerusalem:“ Destroy it! Destroy it down to its foundations!”

On the day you stood aloof, on the day strangers captured his wealth, while foreigners entered his city gate and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were just like one of them.Do not gloat over your brother in the day of his calamity; do not rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction; do not boastfully mock in the day of distress.Do not enter my people’s city gate in the day of their disaster. Yes, you— do not gloat over their misery in the day of their disaster, and do not appropriate their possessions in the day of their disaster.Do not stand at the crossroads to cut off their fugitives, and do not hand over their survivors in the day of distress.For the day of the LORD is near, against all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; what you deserve will return on your own head.

saying,“ If you knew this day what would bring peace— but now it is hidden from your eyes.

Though this temple is now exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will scoff. They will say,“ Why did the LORD do this to this land and this temple?”

All its soil will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, unsown, producing nothing, with no plant growing on it, just like the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD demolished in his fierce anger.All the nations will ask,‘ Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why this intense outburst of anger?’

When they looked from a distance, they could barely recognize him. They wept aloud, and each man tore his robe and threw dust into the air and on his head.Then they sat on the ground with him seven days and nights, but no one spoke a word to him because they saw that his suffering was very intense.

They have made their land a horror, a perpetual object of scorn; all who pass by it will be appalled and shake their heads.
