The godless seem like a lush plant growing in the sunshine, its branches spreading across the garden.Its roots grow down through a pile of stones; it takes hold on a bed of rocks.But when it is uprooted, it’s as though it never existed!That’s the end of its life, and others spring up from the earth to replace it.

even though it was already planted in good soil and had plenty of water so it could grow into a splendid vine and produce rich leaves and luscious fruit.“ So now the Sovereign Lord asks: Will this vine grow and prosper? No! I will pull it up, roots and all! I will cut off its fruit and let its leaves wither and die. It will die in the same good soil where it had grown so well.”

The people are like the dead branches of a tree, broken off and used for kindling beneath the cooking pots. Israel is a foolish and stupid nation, for its people have turned away from God. Therefore, the one who made them will show them no pity or mercy.

The people of Israel are struck down. Their roots are dried up, and they will bear no more fruit. And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children.”

“ Even a tree has more hope! If it is cut down, it will sprout again and grow new branches.Though its roots have grown old in the earth and its stump decays,at the scent of water it will bud and sprout again like a new seedling.
