爾曹為民、無疑也、智慧將與爾偕亡、

爾豈人中之俊乎、爾曹若死、宇宙間豈無哲人哉。

爾為民中俊者、無疑也、爾以為若死、智慧遂同死、或作爾豈民中之俊乎爾曹若死智慧亦死乎

“ Doubtless you are the only people who matter, and wisdom will die with you!

“ You people think you are the only ones who matter! You are sure that wisdom will die with you!

“ No doubt you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.

“ You people really know everything, don’t you? And when you die, wisdom will die with you!

No doubt you are the people, and wisdom will die with you!

“ Truly then you are the people, And with you wisdom will die!

No doubt but ye are the people, And wisdom shall die with you.

“ Without a doubt you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.

“ No doubt, but you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.

For You have hidden their heart from understanding; Therefore You will not exalt them.

I said,‘ Age should speak, And multitude of years should teach wisdom.’But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.Great men are not always wise, Nor do the aged always understand justice.“ Therefore I say,‘ Listen to me, I also will declare my opinion.’Indeed I waited for your words, I listened to your reasonings, while you searched out what to say.I paid close attention to you; And surely not one of you convinced Job, Or answered his words—Lest you say,‘ We have found wisdom’; God will vanquish him, not man.

“ Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; Cause me to understand wherein I have erred.How forceful are right words! But what does your arguing prove?

I have heard the rebuke that reproaches me, And the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.

“ For inquire, please, of the former age, And consider the things discovered by their fathers;For we were born yesterday, and know nothing, Because our days on earth are a shadow.Will they not teach you and tell you, And utter words from their heart?

“ But please, come back again, all of you, For I shall not find one wise man among you.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!

I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren?

That He would show you the secrets of wisdom! For they would double your prudence. Know therefore that God exacts from you Less than your iniquity deserves.

“ Should a wise man answer with empty knowledge, And fill himself with the east wind?

We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!

The rich man is wise in his own eyes, But the poor who has understanding searches him out.

“ Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be vindicated?

For an empty-headed man will be wise, When a wild donkey’s colt is born a man.
