在我往而不返之先、使我稍得安息、我所將往之處、乃幽暗死陰之地、

before I go to the place of no return, to the land of gloom and utter darkness,

Turn away before I go to the place I can’t return from. It’s the land of gloom and total darkness.

before I go— and I shall not return— to the land of darkness and deep shadow,

before I leave— never to return— for the land of darkness and utter gloom.

before I go to a land of darkness and gloom, never to return.

Before I go— and I shall not return— To the land of darkness and deep shadow,

Before I go to the place from which I shall not return, To the land of darkness and the shadow of death,

Before I go whence I shall not return, Even to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;

before I go to a land of darkness and gloom, never to return.

before I depart, never to return, to the land of darkness and the deepest shadow,

Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let all that makes black the day terrify it.

But now he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

For when a few years have come, I will go the way of no return.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?As the waters fail from the sea, and the river wastes and dries up,so man lies down and doesn’t rise. Until the heavens are no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.“ Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time and remember me!If a man dies, will he live again? I would wait all the days of my warfare, until my release should come.

The eye of him who sees me will see me no more. Your eyes will be on me, but I will not be.As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol will come up no more.He will return no more to his house, neither will his place know him any more.

For now should I have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,

For we must die, and are like water spilled on the ground, which can’t be gathered up again; neither does God take away life, but devises means, that he who is banished not be an outcast from him.

Is your loving kindness declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in Destruction?Are your wonders made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

I said,“ I won’t see Yah, Yah in the land of the living. I will see man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

You have laid me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths.

They didn’t say,‘ Where is Yahweh who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that no one passed through, and where no man lived?’
