Doth our law judge a man, except it first hear from himself and know what he doeth?

“不先听本人的口供，不知道他所做的事，难道我们的律法还定他的罪吗？”

『未先聽訟、一究其所行、吾法豈能遽加以罪乎？』

“ Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”

“ Does our law find a man guilty without hearing him first? Doesn’t it want to find out what he is doing?”

“ Is it legal to convict a man before he is given a hearing?” he asked.

Doth our law judge[ any] man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?

He that giveth answer before he heareth, It is folly and shame unto him.

Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: and sittest thou to judge me according to the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.

If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates; then shalt thou arise, and get thee up unto the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose;and thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days: and thou shalt inquire; and they shall show thee the sentence of judgment.And thou shalt do according to the tenor of the sentence which they shall show thee from that place which Jehovah shall choose; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they shall teach thee:according to the tenor of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do; thou shalt not turn aside from the sentence which they shall show thee, to the right hand, nor to the left.

One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.If an unrighteous witness rise up against any man to testify against him of wrong- doing,then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before Jehovah, before the priests and the judges that shall be in those days;and the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and have testified falsely against his brother;then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to do unto his brother: so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.

At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is to die be put to death; at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.
