Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:“ Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn— and I would heal them.” (niv)

The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. (niv)

Can an Ethiopian change his skin or a leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil. (niv)

You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (niv)
