The one who has accepted his testimony has confirmed clearly that God is truthful.

Why does no one challenge me when I come? Why does no one respond when I call? Is my hand too weak to deliver you? Do I lack the power to rescue you? Look, with a mere shout I can dry up the sea; I can turn streams into a desert, so the fish rot away and die from lack of water.

So they came to John and said to him,“ Rabbi, the one who was with you on the other side of the Jordan River, about whom you testified– see, he is baptizing, and everyone is flocking to him!”

Who would have believed what we just heard? When was the LORD’s power revealed through him?

For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he does, and will show him greater deeds than these, so that you will be amazed.

But not all have obeyed the good news, for Isaiah says,“ Lord, who has believed our report?”Consequently faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the preached word of Christ.But I ask, have they not heard? Yes, they have: Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.But again I ask, didn’t Israel understand? First Moses says,“ I will make you jealous by those who are not a nation; with a senseless nation I will provoke you to anger.”And Isaiah is even bold enough to say,“ I was found by those who did not seek me; I became well known to those who did not ask for me.”But about Israel he says,“ All day long I held out my hands to this disobedient and stubborn people!”

God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew! Do you not know what the scripture says about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?“ Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars; I alone am left and they are seeking my life!”But what was the divine response to him?“ I have kept for myself seven thousand people who have not bent the knee to Baal.”So in the same way at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.And if it is by grace, it is no longer by works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace.
