耶穌還對那一羣人說話時，他母親和弟兄站在外邊，想法子要和他說話。

這個人不是那木匠、馬利亞的兒子、雅各約瑟猶大西門的弟兄麼？他妹妹們不也是在我們這裏麼？』就跟他格格不入。

耶穌的弟兄就對耶穌說：『你離開這裏，上猶太去吧，讓你的門徒在那裏也看看你所作的事啊。因為沒有人在隱密中作事、而尋求公開顯揚的。你既作這些事，就該將自己向世人顯明出來啊。』（原來連他弟兄也不信他。）

他們一進城，就上了所寄住的房頂屋子；有彼得和約翰、雅各和安得烈、腓力和多馬、巴多羅買和馬太、亞勒腓的兒子雅各、和熱心派的人西門、以及雅各的兒子猶大。這些人同婦人們和耶穌的母親馬利亞、同耶穌的弟兄、都同心合意、恆心專務於禱告。

難道我們沒有權利帶着信主的姊妹為妻、出入往來、像其餘的使徒與主的弟兄和磯法一樣麼？

至於別的使徒呢、除了主的兄弟雅各、我都沒有見。

這不是那木匠的兒子麼？他母親不是叫馬利亞，而他弟兄叫雅各、約瑟、西門、猶大麼？他妹妹們不是都在我們這裏麼？這個人從哪裏得了這一切呢？』

你呢、迦伯農啊！難道你要被高舉到天上麼？你必被降下到陰間哪！因為在你中間所行過的異能，若行在所多瑪，它還可以存到今日。

既上了船，就要往海那邊到迦伯農去。天已經黑了，耶穌還沒有來到他們那裏，
