After this, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus— but secretly because of his fear of the Jews— asked Pilate that he might remove Jesus’s body. Pilate gave him permission; so he came and took his body away.

Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.

There was a good and righteous man named Joseph, a member of the Sanhedrin,who had not agreed with their plan and action. He was from Arimathea, a Judean town, and was looking forward to the kingdom of God.He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body.Taking it down, he wrapped it in fine linen and placed it in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever been placed.It was the preparation day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.The women who had come with him from Galilee followed along and observed the tomb and how his body was placed.Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

When it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body. Then Pilate ordered that it be released.So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean, fine linen,and placed it in his new tomb, which he had cut into the rock. He left after rolling a great stone against the entrance of the tomb.Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were seated there, facing the tomb.

Most of the brothers have gained confidence in the Lord from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the word fearlessly.

When it was already evening, because it was the day of preparation( that is, the day before the Sabbath),Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Sanhedrin who was himself looking forward to the kingdom of God, came and boldly went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body.Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had already died.When he found out from the centurion, he gave the corpse to Joseph.After he bought some linen cloth, Joseph took him down and wrapped him in the linen. Then he laid him in a tomb cut out of the rock and rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb.Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching where he was laid.

Still, nobody was talking publicly about him for fear of the Jews.

Nevertheless, many did believe in him even among the rulers, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, so that they would not be banned from the synagogue.

His parents said these things because they were afraid of the Jews, since the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed him as the Messiah, he would be banned from the synagogue.

The fear of mankind is a snare, but the one who trusts in the LORD is protected.
