From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free. But the Jewish leaders kept shouting,“ If you let this man go, you are not Caesar’s friend! Anyone who claims to be a king is against Caesar!”

Then Pilate went back inside the palace. He ordered Jesus to be brought to him. Pilate asked him,“ Are you the king of the Jews?”

Philip found Nathanael and told him,“ We have found the one whom Moses wrote about in the Law. The prophets also wrote about him. He is Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”“ Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.“ Come and see,” said Philip.

“ I believed that I should oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. So I did everything I could to oppose his name.

Nathanael replied,“ Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are the king of Israel.”

The chief priests of the Jews argued with Pilate. They said,“ Do not write‘ The King of the Jews.’ Write that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”
