Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”

The plowers plowed upon my back; They lengthened their furrows.”

saying,“ Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles.And they will mock Him and spit on Him, and flog Him and kill Him; and three days later He will rise from the dead.”

and He Himself brought our sins in His body up on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by His wounds you were healed.

Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman cohort to Him.And they stripped Him and put a red cloak on Him.And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying,“ Hail, King of the Jews!”And they spit on Him, and took the reed and beat Him on the head.And after they had mocked Him, they took the cloak off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.

and after they have flogged Him, they will kill Him; and on the third day He will rise.”

But they were insistent, with loud voices, demanding that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail.

The crowd joined in an attack against them, and the chief magistrates tore their robes off them and proceeded to order them to be beaten with rods.When they had struck them with many blows, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to guard them securely;

the commander ordered that he be brought into the barracks, saying that he was to be interrogated by flogging so that he would find out the reason why they were shouting against him that way.But when they stretched him out with straps, Paul said to the centurion who was standing by,“ Is it lawful for you to flog a man who is a Roman and uncondemned?”

Intent on satisfying the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.Now the soldiers took Him away into the palace( that is, the Praetorium), and they* called together the whole Roman cohort.And they* dressed Him in purple, and after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on Him;and they began saluting Him:“ Hail, King of the Jews!”And they repeatedly beat His head with a reed and spit on Him, and kneeling, they bowed down before Him.And after they had mocked Him, they took the purple cloak off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they* led Him out to crucify Him.

Five times I received from the Jews thirty nine lashes.

“ Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city,

and others experienced mocking and flogging, and further, chains and imprisonment.
